#2 YOUNG DANISH DESIGN – TREASURES

THIS IS THE #2 IN THE SERIAL OF YOUNG DANISH DESIGNERS!!

Anita Johansen – educated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2012. Her Graduation project and her first launching furniture – The Daybed, was highly acknowledge and recommended – it has a classic look and all the way superb details! Its an exploration of traditional furniture upholstery – Anita has taken upholstery to the next level, perfect suitable for modern life style with features, that makes it easy to change upholstery component.

Lately The Daybed by Anita Johansen is in Wallpapers report for Maison et Objet 2014!

With her colleague Laura Faurschou, Anita Johansen is one of the founders of Johansen Faurschou focus on the scandinavian approach to simplicity and functionality. The company works within the frame of traditional craftsmanship with an focus on today’s need for exhibiting and accessorizing our homes. Their ambitions is to create products with a simplistic appearance and an honest expression because the designers seek avoid unnecessary details.

In January this year Johansen and Faurschou joined the international furnishing show, imm cologne as part of the group danishdesign MAKERS who collective presented a collection of objects.

Johansen Faurschou was presented with their ´Blind Pendant´ and ´Frame Mirror´!

The ´Blind Pendant´ is designed around the idea of being able to generate both general and focused lighting. The pendant has a shade that can be raised and lowered on the cord, thereby increasing or decreasing the light’s intensity and span.

The ´Frame Mirror´has its reference to the classic barber mirror. The small tray shelf ads a function to the mirror and the mirror ads a dimention to the itemsyou display on the shelf.

I find Johansen Faurschou design really elegant, simple but still edgy – What do you think?

MIRROR MIRROR on the wall!

Do not underestimate the effect of mirrors!

Mirrors have a marvelous ability to make a room feel double its size! So, if you are fighting for more space, go for mirrors – its nothing new, but it still works! I would go for mirrors in difference sizes and styles – I am especially in to old “storytelling” mirrors. The last ones I´ve bought was from a girl who occupied an old bathhouse for living – in there she found two original old mirrors hanging in the former locker room – lucky me!

When you group the mirrors they give the illusion of being a beautiful one piece of art, but if you separate them into a form of pattern you’ll be able to create cohesion between rooms – which is crucial to make a calm expression.

Tips for mirrors:

  • Make sure, that view, reflected in the mirror is pleasant.
  • Avoid reflection of doors, kitchen, messy areas and other views you don’t want to double.
  • Hang mirrors to reflect nice window view – it brings more light – artworks, wallpaper and your favorite bits and pieces.

One of my best buys are these copper mirrors from IKEA, so cheap – 10 pcs 100DKK – stick em´to the wall and here you go, CLASSY and SIMPLE!  When I look from my living room to the hall, I get a feeling of coherence even though I  sometimes mix styles – if I keep interior accessories that creates coherence I can go crazy in other areas (vintage, modern, industrial, mixed styles) but still feel the coherence between the rooms interior wise

You can get these stick-to-wall mirrors in any kind of shapes and colors – letter mirrors just caught my eye, funky, fun and classic! It doesn’t seem of much, but it makes a huge change! You can get the letter mirror in different sizes, check out http://www.servewell.co.uk/categories/letter-mirrors—funky/4/

Another option is to get hold of one these ICONIC mirrors!

A cheap way to transform your bathroom!

Here comes the recipe to transform your bathroom!

I have billions of ideas, so don’t hesitate to contact me, Ill be happy to share them with you! So, this is just one solution, cheap, fast and easy!!

1. Buy a roll of shelf liner in whatever color or pattern you like – you can get it very cheap! In Denmark you can get in Tiger shops for about 30DKK.

2. Measure the tiles and use a pencil to draw the exact same size on the back of the liner.

3. Cut all the squares and stick them on the tiles

!! Watch out for bubbles, they are quite annoying. To avoid them start of in the corner and make sure you erase all the bubbles while you slowly stick it to the tile. Don’t remove the backside of the shelf liner all at once, do it while you stick it to the tile

MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL! Why the h… do YOU look like that!?

To transform your dead boring mirror, which comes with all the flats, buy an old wooden photo frame, cut it up, so it matches the size of the mirror and stick it directly to the mirror using double-sided-tape – easy!

As you see I chose to paint the frame black and because I couldn’t find a frame in a size matching the mirror I decided to make a golden frame around the wooden frame! Again, thank God for sticker paper! Cheap and easy, and it matches the shower curtain and the gold painted prism perfectly!

Magic dust doesn’t have to be expensive!

How to pour cheap magic dust over your bathroom!

In Copenhagen the majority of the flats has dead boring bathrooms ripped for any fun deco or details at all! White tiles, white toilet, white white white, a square mirror and often an extremely high intense lightbulb!! Could look like this… So how to transform this into a cozy place to be, seems pretty impossible, but nothing is – ill show you, what I did!

Since I am not aloud to change whatever I want in my flat, my creativity suffered under some limitations, but not enough to kill it! So what to do? I started of by changing the color of the tiles into black, by using shelf liner, very effective and it makes such an amazing different. I haven’t changed every second tile, cause I did not want to look organized and tight. Next big thing was to find a shower curtain carrying so much power, that it will make me feel comfy and inspired. In a small room like the shower curtain, cause of its size, becomes the primary decoration, why it has to “carry the style” you choose! I wanted a modern historian and warm look, how do you think it works?

The light in the ceiling are actually spots, so to complete my wanted look I found an old prism and spray painted it gold! You can read further about how I transformed the mirror and did the tiles here:

Don’t forget you´ll spend about 6 month at the toilet during your life – you deserve to sit in nice surroundings!
