The Danish artist Christina Julsgaard hit my heart, and I must say, that ain´t easy at least painting-wise 😉 But the colorful paintings by Christina just speak to me in a way that paintings very rarely do! Christina manage to express feelings, experiences and dreams into a visual world of colorful abstractions.
Christina Julsgaard has an interesting background as a fashion designer. Her career started already when she was 20, working for a Danish design company leading her to become the founder of her own fashion label YIIP Copenhagen. Her designs are minimalistic and clear in expression, NOT being said, that the interpretation is manyfold and endless! That exactly what I really love about her – so clear but still a never-ending search in the world of colors, feelings and thoughts!
I can’t express it better than… Ole Lindboe, editor of the magazine Art, does at Christina Julsgaards website – SHE HAS AN INDESCRIBABLE ABILITY TO HIT A MOOD!
How do you like it??
Christina Julsgaard was among the 102 Danish artists chosen to decorate an elephant sculpture for the Elephant Parade, a cultural event, which adorned the streets of Copenhagen in aid of saving the Asian elephants. And more to the East Christina had a solo exhibition at a gallery in Shanghai, which she now regularly collaborates with a joint exhibition in Hong Kong and a gallery in the Netherlands.
If you want to see her paintings in real life, Berlin is the place in spring 2014. Keep an eye on her webpage, from where you can also buy her artwork and a range of other cool stuff like artsy iphonecovers, t-shirts, scarfs, posters keychains!
Thanks to Christina for letting me share her artwork with you! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I do! 🙂
At first it reminded me of my beloved Eames – House of Cards – very contemporary not to mention the tv-show! If you love books like me, this is the coolest option ever – is it possible to make our own House of Books? WHY NOT!! 😀
The German designer Werner Aisslinger is really inspiring and I can only recommend you to browse around his page Studio Aisslinger. As said on his page Aisslinger covers the spectrum of experimental, artistic approaches, including industrial design and architecture. He delights in making use of the latest technologies and has helped introduce new materials and techniq ues to the world of product design… Nothing to disagree!!
I am really inspired to create my own bookshelf – all you need is heaps loads of old books, that you don´t want to read again. They are often to be find in containers or flee markets or ask your network to start a collection for you 😉
The cool thing about this installation it is a self sufficient system that can grow itself, any read book is a resource, as Aisslinger says – the system feeds itself!
If you have any ideas where to get the metal connector like the one shown on the photo,
PLEASE let me know!!! Ill go hunting for it too…
WOW, I LOVE IT… DO YOU??
If you haven´t noticed I am a sucker for showercurtains, if it was´nt for my beloved Egyptian boat I would immediately order one from Society6! I consider if it would´nt be genius to have at least two – I mean with these curtains its like getting a entire new look for 68 USD! Ill leave the craziness for the weekend, but I think you should have a tiny color-injection to kick off your weekend and maybe end your work-week!
A VERY HAPPY FRIDAY TO ALL OF YOU – MORE BATHROOM STUFF IS COMING UP
AND TOMORROW THE #4 WEEKEND HUNT FOR VINTAGE MIX´ N MODERN IS READY TO GO!
Share with friend and family, like and comment if you any cool ideas or thought that I should know of 🙂
GREETINGS FROM DANISH DESIGN SOCIETY! Promise me if you ever come to Copenhagen visit the Danish Design Society, go for a coffee, feel the relax atmosphere, enjoy the cool interior design and enjoy the view – just in front you’ll se Tivoli and billions of bike riders!
And before you leave make sure you did not miss an exhibition!
I went to a seminar about Design for All the other day. It was really inspiring being among a wide range of different scientists from different spheres. The main focus was on the radical demographic change that todays Western societies face and the challenges that go hand in hand with the fact that people simply live longer. The expanding human lifespan means new challenges for both the architects, designer, innovators and not least politicians. When I receive the sum up of the day Ill tell and show you cool stuff from the event! Firstly, enjoy the photos – that place is worth a visit!

I am usually not into graphic art and prints but this christmas I went to the annual christmas market at the ´Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts´ where I was lucky to meet Amanda Lilholt Hurup and experience her prints!
Amandas prints immediately spoke to me and somehow they made me feel like the person on the print – I identified myself in her prints, I simply must have them! Actually I could´nt decide which one I wanted most, I ended up with her card so I had some time to think, hmm… Take a look at her web, maybe they speak to you as well!
Its a win-win cause the the style is durable both for modern, classic and mixed interior design depending of how you present it of cause…
All her prints are signed and come in three sizes:
Amanda Lilholt Hurup is based in Copenhagen and studies furniture and spatial design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts – Ill keep an eye on her on in the future!
